Biography
Sandra De Sousa is an award winning British/Portuguese actress living in Los Angeles.
Born in South London to Portuguese parents, she knew at the tender age of 5 that she wanted to act. After principal roles in many school plays and musicals and whilst studying painting at the Slade School of Fine Art (UCL) she begun work in professional shows at the Bloomsbury theatre. Which include major parts in 'Yerma' and 'Caligula'. Whilst performing as Salome in 'Salome' at the Edinburgh Fringe, she won a starring role as Charlotte in her first feature film 'The Prodigal'. Training at the Central School of Speech and Drama, the Poor School and Actors Temple.She won the British Finalist category of the 'International Stopping Power' competition and was given the prize of training with the renowned Los Angeles-based acting coach Bernard Hiller. This meeting proved very influential as she became the founding organiser of his Masterclasses in London and continues to work with him regularly in Los Angeles.
Sandra has worked extensively in theater, playing leading and supporting roles in popular stage productions from 'Yerma', 'Salome', 'Caligula' at the Bloomsbury theater, 'Bound Man' at the Battersea Arts Centre, 'The Hothouse' and 'Be my Baby' to classics such as Isabella in 'Measure for Measure' and Yeliena in 'Uncle Vanya' at the Workhouse Theater. She landed the starring role of Rosie in the first ever production of 'Porn Crackers' which also starred Charley Speed (Britain's Top Model Judge), directed by well-known producer/director Ruth Boswell and written by Jan Woolf, (awarded the Harold Pinter residency) at the Hackney Empire, London. Also playing the lead in the film 'Love on the High Side' which won the audience vote at the Cannes 24 hour Film Festival, she booked the featured role of Ashlee Wilcox a tough drug addict on the top ITV1 series Bad Girls and then appeared in the role of sexy Spanish con woman Dr Christina Lopez Rey in BBC1's popular daytime series Doctors.
Since moving to Los Angeles over 6 years ago, Sandra has been very busy with a number of exciting projects. Her two most recent short films "Crazy Woman got a Gun" and "Modern American NIghtmare" were both, selected, nominated and have won awards at a number of Film Festivals.
This year alone, not only has Sandra shot three different films, and she has two feature films coming out in the next few months, the European Sci-fi feature “Intruder,” where she plays the leader/queen Adrasteia of an unusual race, and “The Untold Story” directed by Emmy Award winning director Shane Stanley, where she plays the good cop, ‘Officer Smith.’ Sandra is also shooting two feature films “Queen of Hearts” playing Queen Mithra, who is fighting for freedom in a post apocalyptic world and “Affair’s on Capri.” Sandra plays the legendary British performer and comedienne Gracie Fields.
Sandra is currently prepping to take on the lead role of therapist Dr Petunia Pepper to a group of failed Superheros in the upcoming comedy webisode “SuperZeros.”
